A place of much historical significance, the Livingstone House was originally built as a home for the Sultan Majid in 1860. It subsequently became a base for missionaries and explorers before they made the trip inland, and will be remembered as the place where David Livingstone lived prior to his last expedition. It has since been used as a clove production and research facility, a resting place for invalids and a religious meeting place. Today it houses the Zanzibar Tourist Board. |
